Coach Albert Moore's club used a 19-hit attack to bury Post 255, 17-1, and grab a firm two and a half game lead for the No. 2 spot. The humiliating defeat snapped a nine-game Post 255 winning streak.

"I thought, 'Holy smokes. They knew about it in Chicago Giusti confessed. "I was down in the doldrums." When he returned to his' locker later he found the already opened letter and inside was word he had been awaiting. "They sure had me going good," Giusti conceded. "I was peeved." Giusti's relief work has been one of the few bright spots for Pirate pitching in the first half of the season.

He notched his ninth save in Wednesday night's 3-2 win over Los Angeles, and he has a 5-1 record with a 1.49 earned run average. Giusti's statistics weren't quite as impressive at this stage last year, but he still voiced angry objection when former Pirate Manager Danny Murtaught bypassed him in picking the All-Star pitchers. "It's a fraud," he complained at the time. "Danny picked his staff on what other, managers said without looking at the statistics. I can't imagine how you can justify that." PITTSBURGH (AP) --Dave Giusti has finally "made the National League All-Star team, but a prank by his Pittsburgh Pirate iteammates caused him: some anxious moments.

The Pirates knew the reliever was angered last season when he was bypassed for the select squad, and when they spotted a letter from the league office in his locker Wednesday they intercepted it. The letter had been sent notify Giusti that he had been named to the All-Star staff by Manager Sparky Anderson of the Cincinnati Reds. "The guys were razzing about not making the 'All-Star team," noted Giusti, a thickshouldered 200-pounder with dark hair and long sideburns. "They kept asking me where the heck my letter was," he continued. "Willie Stargell had one, but mine just wasn't there." Adding to Giusti's grief was a fan letter he had just received from Chicago.
